Lighting update + a cool device charger powerpoint combo

Observant readers may have noticed the standard BC-style light battens. These are the standard lights installed by all builders for BASIX compliance.

Once certification is complete, you can put in low-voltage downlights, or whatever you wish really.

Here's pictures of the lights we are installing.

The first is an orange coloured pendant light. Two of these are to be installed over the kitchen island bench. The next one isn't very clear, but it's a white puffy globe reminiscent of the old white paper globes. Three of these are going in the hallway bulkhead space. We are not putting downlights in the feature bulkheads. It was too hard to arrange at the time -

Sensor light, and feature lights (3 to be installed), all for front of house -

Now here's a cool device. This powerpoint will replace strategic powerpoints around the house, and allow us to charge via USB the myriad of devices we have. Mostly Apple, but it can be anything. The left USB charge is 1-Amp, for iPhones, and the right USB is for iPads and similar requiring a bit more power grunt -

These devices are from an Australian-owned company called SOCKITZ.

They are available via the web at -

for $37.95 each, and for extra you can get coloured or aluminium ones. You can install these yourself if you're up to it. Technically, an electrician should do it, but it's your call on that.

These plugs will totally eliminate the need to have a bunch of chargers lying around the house. Only just USB cables now - yay!

  1. How cool is that PowerPoint...I think I will get some for my build. I love the idea of changing the phone and iPad without using a PowerPoint! Thanks for the link!

  2. And now for an extra $8 you can get the powerpoint with NFC, for those devices that have it. Everything will in a few years...
